Embrace Your Fear!
Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway – Susan Jeffers
There’s a lot of focus on entrepreneurship these days.
Endless blogs on how to start, how to succeed, how to ease into it and how to fund it. New financing programs and grants are being offered every other day and copious amounts of online content being generated to highlight the many successful entrepreneurs out there.
Entrepreneurship is sexy.
And I get to meet with sexy entrepreneurs every day! Often, I’m their first stop along the way to the promise land. And I’ve come to see a trend.
The fear of fear.
Starting a business is not easy. It’s scary as hell. It’s supposed to be! Putting yourself out there, making that investment, leaving your job, taking a chance on something you believe in (when others may not), it’s a lot.
It seems to me that the abundance of support and marketing is making people think that it should be easier – that feeling fear is unnecessary. Feeling discomfort is avoidable.
Fear is not only normal but essential. It’s what drives you harder to succeed and puts you in check. Fear can be the very thing that helps you. The right amount of fear can be your very best friend, or if you let it, your biggest enemy. Don’t shy away from fear and don’t for a second think you’re not supposed to experience it. Feel it, understand it and then go ahead and “do it anyway”.
