Instragram? How about Insta maybe.
We can be pretty self absorbed, us humans. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in what we like, what’s cool to us and what works for us that we expect that it translates into the right decision for everyone.
For instance (and example only) let’s consider Instagram.
Instagram is a very cool and effective platform for many people. It’s where many choose to get their news and it’s proven to be tremendously effective in engaging a particular audience in a very visual way for many businesses. But to say that because you use Instagram and all your friends use it therefore your business should use it or your employer should use it is irresponsible.
We see this, “I like it therefore it is” syndrome often. Clients tell us they want to use Instragram or Vine or Pinterest or Google + (hah kidding, no one has ever asked us for Google +) to market their business. When we ask them to explain why, they typically say because that’s what they use or that’s what they heard is popular.
But what we really need to know and consider is:
- Is that where your audience is?
- How do they use the platform to communicate?
- Is my content right for this channel?
The cool and popular isn’t necessarily the right answer – or maybe it is.
Before diving in – think strategically, do your homework and make smart decisions with your valuable time.
